This Gurudwara is the largest of the nine to ten Gurudwaras located in Bangladesh. The present entrance of the high-walled Gurudwara Nanakshahi is on the south side. Gurdwara Shri Nanak Shahi Dhaka is a historic Gurdwara located at a place where Guru Nanak Dev ji stayed ( 1506-1507 ) as also Guru Tegh Bhadur ji who had a sojourn of two years in Dhaka during his travels to the east .It was built , in 1830 , during the reign of Maharajah Ranjit Singh in the Punjab .It is said that while he resided here the news of the birth of his son , Gobind Rai , was communicated to the Guru sahib . The place was under Sujatpur Mauza (Dhaka University area). He established a Manji' over there, which was later, renamed Gurdwara Nanakshahi. Sujatpur Sikh Sangat (religious gathering) is believe to have been built at the initiative of a Sikh priest, Bhai Nathan, sent by the sixth sikh guru, Hargobind Ji (1606-1645), during the reign of Mughal emperor jahangir. He laid the foundation stone. It was originally an Udashi Charan Paduka founded by Baba Nath, Successor of Bhai Almast, in memory of Guru Nanak Dev g.
