The British government founded the Fire Service in undivided India in 1939-40. The Calcutta Fire Service for the city of Calcutta at the regional level during the Partition and the Bengal Fire Service for Bengal (in Kolkata) in undivided Bengal. In 1947, the fire service in the area was renamed as East Pakistan Fire Service. Similarly, during the Second World War, the Department of Civil Defense in India was initially created as Air Raid Precautions (ARP) and later in 1951 as the Department of Civil Defense through legal process. For the purpose of work management, a department called Rescue Department was created under the Roads and Highways Department. On 9 April 1971, the then Fire Service Directorate and the Civil Defense Department were merged and established the Fire Service and Civil Defense Department.

Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defense is a department responsible rescue missions in Bangladesh including fire safety, safety during air raids and any kind of disaster. Sylhet Fire Service & Civil Defense is performing very well to protect & prevent from fire burning incident and disaster management & started a workshop on the community of volunteers training.

One n only fire station inside the Sylhet Metro city. They are hard working people. Always try to rescue people with less injury. This is surprising the town is getting large day by day but fire fighting station is not increasing. With their limited resources they are ready for 24/7 duty. Sometimes they organise awareness program in school, college and in many government and private office.

Built before I exiated ’60 may be. But its ok. The only one in town. They have community youth training and awareness programs which is rather good. Firemen are pleasant, well at compared to the local cops.
