One if the oldest department of University of Dhaka It was established in 1949 naming Soil Science. In 2000 , it was broaden Soil water and environment, I'm short SWE. The department offers 4 year BS and one year MS degrees in Soil, Water and Environment. The Ph.D course is of a minimum of 3 years duration. From the academic session 2005, MS course will be offered only by thesis option. Students are doing research for their MS and PhD degrees in various fields of soil, water and environment related problems like As toxicity in the food chain, heavy metal toxicity in soil and remediation, sulphur transformation in soils, soil morphology and genesis, waste recycling and waste mangement etc
