The Rampal power plant is a proposed 1320 megawatt coal-fired power station at RampalUpazila of Bagerhat District in Khulna, Bangladesh. It is a joint partnership between India's state owned National Thermal Power Corporation and Bangladesh Power Development Board. The joint venture company is known as Bangladesh India Friendship Power Company (BIFPC). The proposed project, on an area of over 1834 acres of land, is situated 14 kilometres north of the world's largest mangrove forest Sundarbans which is a UNESCO world heritage site. It will be the country's largest power plant.
Im working here. Electricity is getting strong and increasing in my country Bangladesh
They say it’s 13 km away from Sunderbans. But actually it’s only 11 km!!! The problem is why coal? Why not nuclear power plant?? The story behind is India wants to destroy our portion of Sunderbans. So they are telling about friendship & deep down they are destroying our World Heritage site Sunderbans. So, I would love to ask our govt. to stop this project right now.
It's a nice place to look at.
2x660 MW maitree super power plant. It's a coal based power plant. BD government takes huge initiative for power sector. Directly it will helps the nation by generating power for industry as well as common peoples. Construction is on going very rapidly at every sector like jetty, Boiler, accomodation building etc. Our ABM water company is involved here for producing Construction & potable water. We built here first construction for treatment plant.
Rampal project was first conceived in 2010 and Bangladesh signed an agreement with India for the joint coal-based power project on January 29, 2012. India’s state-owned NTPC and Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) have equal ownership of the plant and also the electricity it generates. Subsequently, in 2013, Bangladesh India Friendship Company Limited (BIFPCL) was formed to deal with power trading between the two South Asian countries. The BIFPCL is a 50:50 joint venture between NTPC and BPDB. On February 29, 2016, BIFPCL inked an agreement with India’s state-owned Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) to build the 2x660 MW Super Thermal Power Project worth of INR 1000 million. The Rampal power project, which is also referred to as “Maitree (Friendship) Project”, will be constructed over 1,834 hectares near the Mongla sea port. BHEL has arranged debt financing for the project from the EXIM Bank of India, for which the loan agreement between EXIM Bank of India and BIFPCL was signed in March, 2017. Project is scheduled to start commercial operation by end of 2020.
