Kumudini Hospital was founded by Rai Bahadur R P Shaha in 1938. Lord R G Casey the then Governor of British Bengal formally inaugurated the 750 bedded Kumudini Hospital on 29 July 1944. At inception nursing service used to be provided by foreign nurses from the UK. This was followed by recruiting local womenfolk who were trained by the foreign nurses. Kumudini Nursing School started functioning in 1973 followed by Kumudini Nursing College in 2007. In consonance with the founder's philosophy Kumudini Nursing School & College continue to elevate the status and dignity of women by offering quality education and training. Kumudini Nursing School & College believes in the equality of all human beings irrespective of their cast, color, creed or their personal wealth and status. Kumudini’s aim is to elevate the dignity and status of women by assisting them to broaden their intellectual capacity through higher education and become instrumental in effecting positive social change in the community. Kumudini Nursing School & College works very closely with Kumudini Hospital to achieve the following objectives: 1. To produce competent Nurses who will provide quality care to the patients. 2. To contribute in the socio-economic development of the country and empowerment of women by conducting Nursing training for under privileged girls. 3. To produce Nurse with high morale and responsibility. 4. To ensure additional training in different medical field at home and abroad as and when available beside academic course in the institute.
