It's a land office at the lowest tire of administration. It provides land related services especially collect land development taxes, maintains record of land rights and looks after government land etc. Its immediate superior office is Upazila Land Office, Chhagolnaiya Upazila, Feni district. An Assistant Commissioner (Land) is the head of the Upazila Land office. Union Land Office is headed by a Union Land Assistant Officer (ULAO). One or two Sub Assistant Officers, and one or two Office Assistants works under a ULAO. In British Colonial period this office was called Tahsil. And ULAO is equivalent post to then Tahsildar.
