Myanmar opened counselor office at Dhaka on 26 March 1951 . After Bangladesh got the independent from East Pakistan on 16 December 1971 , Myanmar and Bangladesh have close and cordial ties since the founding of Bangladesh in 1972. On 13 January 1972, Myanmar accorded recognition to Bangladesh. Myanmar was one of the first countries to recognize Bangladesh. The two countries established diplomatic relations at Embassy level on 21 March 1972.

WARNING! The embassy is now at Road 9 but don't bother going there! Ignore the address on the web site too as it's totally wrong. If you want a visa, you have to go to Road 23A, House 7, 3rd floor which is in the street behind the Bengal Inn Hotel. They've outsourced the visa issuance to the Myanmar Visa Collection Service there. The phone number is 02-9842925. Takes 3 working days to get a visa with reduced hours during Ramadan, otherwise about 10-18h. Apparently all public offices and embassies operate from 10h.
