It is the regional main metrological office in Chattogram. This Meteorological Department under ministry of Defense. Where earthquake and weather being observed. In the year 1857 this dept. started its operation. So, the infrastructures are older than 160 years. In 1971 it turned into BANGLADESH METROLOGY DEPARTMENT. During 1975 to 1986 it became Computerized with help of World Metrology Organization. It provides current weather forecast, agro-met data, climate report, Cyclone warnings, monsoon report, seismological data, rainfall forecast, aviation weather forecasts, hydrological data, signals for sea ports and river ports, eclipse data or warning, tsunami warning, regional weather forecasts, droughts warning and all other information related to weather and national security. There is another met office in Patenga, Chattogram near Chattogram Airport. General entry is restricted here. Only authorized persons are allowed to enter. Besides this, visitor(s) may be allowed to enter as per their objects within office working hours only. Mainly students of research-based projects can visit there with permission and proper procedure. This is a very nice place for visiting and gathering knowledge. But unfortunately, this Govt. property need much attention for reconstruction and maintenance. Address: Ambagan Road, Flora Pass Area, Chattogram. It’s a nearby location from Tiger pass circle.

Briefing and flight documentation is provided as indicated in respective Aerodromes section. Wherever possible, the Pilot-in-Command or his designated representative is given is given personal briefing by MET personnel at office. Aerodrome reports and forecasts, including trend type forecasts, are provided as indicated in the following table and respective Aerodrome. For short flights (up to 500NM) all the en-route information is usually presented in tabular non-pictorial form, while for flights of more than 500NM a pictorial forecast with significant weather is supplied. Runway visibility observations, manually, are provided at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA), Dhaka and Shah Amanat Intl Airport, Chittagong when visibility is 926m or less. Warning for the protection of the parked aircraft is issued for squalls and gales when the mean speed of the surface wind is expected to exceed 40Kts. Warnings are also issued for other hazardous meteorological elements.
